Book Cover Design of Dune by Frank Herbert. Created while studying Design at Billy Blue in one of my subjects, Type Generation. I created two complimentary Sans Serif Display fonts called Simonic and Simonic Micro. Simonic is used for the Title text and Simonic Micro for the Author. The typefaces were biographic in nature. A homage to the labels a friend of mine and I would put on our drawings once we’d finish sketching. The Simonic typefaces are refinements of those early experiments in typography. To show the typeface in situ I chose a favourite book of ours, Dune. It’s by the author Frank Herbert and part of the Victor Gollancz Science Fiction Masterworks series. It’s a truly epic tale and my aim was to do it justice.
